Worshipful Brother Glenn Reclaims the Bowman of Rutland Trophy
The Vale of Catmos Lodge returned to the Bowmen of Rutland for our annual archery tournament, with brethren, friends and family once again coming together for an evening of friendly competition.
Organised by W. Bro. Bob Lucas, the annual event has become a firm favourite on the Lodge social calendar, although, judging by the scores at the top of this year's leaderboard, the competition remains as serious as ever. After narrowly losing out to W. Bro. LeRoy Sheppard last year, W. Bro. Glenn Mitchell returned determined to reclaim the Bowman of Rutland Trophy he first won in 2024.
It proved to be another closely fought contest between the pair. Glenn eventually came out on top with an impressive 111 points, just three points ahead of defending champion LeRoy on 108 points, while Hertha and Hugh finished in third place. The result sees Glenn become a two-time Bowman of Rutland champion, adding the 2026 title to his previous victory in 2024. With LeRoy having taken the trophy in between, there is already plenty to play for when the Lodge returns next year (particularly with Glenn making no secret of his ambition to make it three!)
Away from the competition itself, the evening was another great opportunity for brethren to spend time together outside of the Lodge room, joined by friends and family for some archery, good company and a well-earned drink afterwards.
Events such as these continue to be an important part of the Vale of Catmos social calendar, bringing everyone together throughout the year and providing plenty of opportunities for partners, families and friends to get involved too.
A big thank you must go to W. Bro. Bob Lucas for once again organising the evening, as well as everyone at the Bowmen of Rutland for their hospitality and for helping to make the tournament another thoroughly enjoyable occasion. Congratulations to Glenn on reclaiming the trophy, and, for the time being at least, the mantelpiece is his once again!
